The faculty of Biotechnology was created with a vision to harness Himalayan Biodiversity. More than a dozen faculty members trained in USA and Europe have been recruited for teaching and research purpose. To satisfy the requirements of the industry, we are imparting practical training to our students in the latest techniques in biotransformation, fermentation, DNA and RNA isolation, isolation and screening of industrially imortant extremophilic microbes, biochemical analysis, plant tissue culture and standardization of analytical instruments.
The course curriculum and research programs are tailored to generate human resource in different fields like cancer treatment, drug discovery, host-pathogen interaction, disease diagnostics, extremozymes, conservation of economically important plant species of Western Himalayas, meiosis, cell cycle regulation, translational control, engineering stress and dessication tolerance in plants, molecular mechanism of pathogenesis etc. We are confident that our graduates are ready to meet the challenges of the fast developing biotech industry in our country and faculty of Biotechnology is progressing towards its goal to be a centre of excellence in learning and research.
