National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is also one of the biggest educational board conducting the examinations for class 10th and 12th. Along with the secondary and senior secondary examinations NIOS also provided vocational courses.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) was established in 1989 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the Government of India. Initially known as the National Open School, it was renamed the National Institute of Open Schooling in 2002.

NIOS was founded with two primary objectives: first, to provide education to both rural and urban areas, and second, to increase the literacy rate. Operating as a distance learning institution, NIOS offers education equivalent to that provided by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Each year, approximately 3,50,000 students register with the board.
