The last few years have witnessed a paradigm shift in the way all things are conducted. For example, Computers, which were earlier a domain of scientific thinking and work, has over the last couple of years, have become a necessary tool in the conduct of multiplicity of activities - be they business (where all data recording, inventory management, accounting, production planning, market forecasting, etc. ) are all being done with the aid of computers. This will grow, and with the availability of computers at affordable prices, be extended to medium and small industries and businesses also. This will create job demands of a certain nature of computer literate people.

In the last two to three years, the world has witnessed a completely new dimension which is changing the entire concept of business and indeed life itself. To give a few examples, the internet will completely change the way we live our existing lives. Communications will be internet based, business including finance will be conducted over the internet,post and telegraph will be replaced by e-mail and communication will be in 'real time' i.e. with no delay.People in business of all types will create their outward information platform by way of 'web-pages' so that others wanting to know about a company or it's products or services will put them on the web and buyers will be able to access the information through internet and even interact with the company. All this is spawning the need for a different type of education and skill, one of which cannot be provided in the traditional classroom model as we know it today. There will have to be rapid dissemination of the NEW EDUCATION to people to participate in this new global change. With the convergence of forces such as media, telephony, computers and internet, no one will remain un-touched, at least not for long. Hence the need for education of the tools to take on & participate in this new convergence - which the world has chosen to give the nomenclature "THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY".

Recognising this need for an education which will cater to the demands of the coming period,we have launched PIIT - Poddar Institute of Information Technology. The institute is affiliated to the prestigious Sikkim Manipal university(India's first deemed University) and who have recognition for the highest quality of educational standards, accepted the world over. Under this programme PIIT will offer the entire range of studies - from Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Information Technology (as opposed to Masters in Computer Application) along with various specific skill oriented short courses such as E-Commerce.
