The R & D Centre for Bicycle & Sewing Machine has been set up in the year of 1981-82 by Punjab Government with the assistance of UNDP/UNIDO. The Centre is built on an area of 7.5 acres and is having 115 personnel. UNDP/UNIDO has contributed US $ 3.05 million while Punjab Government has contributed Rs 66.0 million. The main objective of this project is to assist the small medium scale industries to modernize and upgrade their quality levels compatible with international standards through adoption of new technologies of manufacturing and quality control., Research and Development Centre for Bicycle and Sewing Machine Polytechnic College wing came into existence in year 2001. The Polytechnic College is a Technical Education Wing of Research and Development for Bicycle and Sewing Machine Ludhiana. The R&D Centre was established in 1983 by Punjab Government with the assistance of UNDP/UNIDO. The Centre has state of the art infrastructure having facilities like Precision Tool Room including CNC machines , Product Design & Development including fabrication of Special Purpose Machines, gauges, Toolings, Jigs and Fixture etc. for the industry. NABL accredited Mechanical Testing including Metallurgy, Chemical Testing, and Mechanical Measurements & Calibration facilities & BIS certified National Bicycle, Test Lab Besides this the institute has also ventured into short term job specific courses like CAD/CAM, CNC programming and machining etc. which has found wider acceptance in the region. Over the number of years, the Centre has built up capabilities to assist the industry of the region to increase their productivity and upgrade the quality of their products thus enabling them to achieve global competiveness. Our Polytechnic is industry interactive and the students have sufficient opportunity for having exposure for latest and emerging technologies & other market driven skills for their better employability/placement in the industry. At present we are running 3 years diploma courses in Mechanical, Computer, Automobile streams and 2 year certificate courses in Skilled Technician Machinist, Skilled technician machine maintenance and quality assurance. Our Polytechnic is ranked among the top 10 Polytechnics in the State. Ms Maruti Suzuki India Pvt Ltd. has been recruiting our students as DET from the last many years. Other companies Ms Volvo India, MS International Tractors Limited, MS Hero Cycles, MS Avon Cycles, M/S New Swan, Guru Nanak Auto group of industries etc. have also been regularly visiting our institute for placement of our students.
