Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, has the unique distinction of becoming the first educational institution in India to score 94.05% (Grade A+) – the highest score awarded to any College by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore & recognized as College with Potential For Excellence by UGC. Affiliated to the five-star Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, it is the oldest women institution and the strongest link in the network of about 700 DAV educational institutions of various types. This institution was founded by the pioneer of DAV Educational Movement, Mahatma Hans Raj Ji at Lahore in May, 1927 and revived at Jalandhar in March, 1948 with a meager strength of 80 students. Since then, its growth has been a remarkable historic and holistic journey – from the initial 80 students to about 4650 students at present. This institution has the distinction of having a sustained record of excellence in academics. The college bags 24 Top positions, 18 Second positions and 12 Third positions in the GNDU April, 2008 Exams. Another field in which the students of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, have excelled is that of sports. The college has won the Guru Nanak Dev University Overall Sports Championship for a total number of Nineteen times. The institution has not only won the General Trophy this year, it has beaten all previous records including its own. It is all time high record this year. In all 40 colleges under GNDU participated for the said championships and our college topped by winning 158 points. The college participated in 38 Games, Winners in 22, Runners-up in 10 and Second Runners-up in 5 Games. The College has equally spectacular achievements in co-curricular activities. The college bagged Overall Trophy of GNDU Final Youth Festival this year, and also bagged 4 trophies out of a total of 5 in different areas viz. Literary, Folk, Theatre and Fine Arts. 133 colleges are affiliated to GNDU, and usually participate in the festival. The achievements of this institution in the Youth Festivals have always been spectacular over the years. The Placement Cell of the college has a 100% placement assistance track record. It conducts regular campus placements, and every year a number of students get selected in companies like Satyam Computers, INFOSYS, TCS, CSC, TECH MAHINDRA, WIPRO TECHNOLOGY, IBM DAKSH, WNS, WIPRO BPO and SAPPHIRE CONSULTANCY. The annual package offered to them ranges from Rs.1.5 to Rs.3.00 lacs. In 2005-06, 46 students found jobs through this Cell, in 2006-07, 110 students were placed, in 2007-08, more than 180 and this year a large number of students got placements in multinational companies. Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya Jalandhar is the first Science and Arts college of the region to avail the use of video-conferencing. After successfully establishing a video conferencing unit in its campus, the college has already availed the technical expertise of many eminent personalities in their respective fields.
