The Dayanand Medical College and Hospital was founded in 1964. The college is located on a spaciuos site located in Ludhiana, Punjab. The medical college's primary clinical teaching facility is DMC & H Medical Car Centre , one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country. Today, the full-time faculty of the DMCH numbers more than 1,000 members with a faculty of practicing physicians. These faculty direct the studies of students in the college's medical curriculum. Post-graduate programs directed by the college provide training for residents and fellows annually. Faculty also conduct research and supervise patient care at the Dayanand Medical College & Hospital. Patient care facilities on the Health Sciences Campus include the a 1200-bed specialty acute care hospital. In addition, the students are also planned to be trained at Hero DMC Heart Institute. Campus research facilities include more than a half-dozen buildings devoted in whole or part to basic research in the medical and pharmaceutical sciences. This bloomed in the form of Arya Medical School in 1934,started in a rented building in Civil Lines, Ludhiana.

In 1936, management of the medical school was handed over to the Arya Samaj, Saban Bazar, Ludhiana, under the aegis of Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Punjab. A separate Managing Body was nominated by the Managing Committee of Arya High School, Ludhiana. It was shifted to its own building (now, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, College Campus) in 1937.

The institution was recognized for LSMF (Licentiate of the Punjab State Medical Faculty) in 1938. The following year, the Managing Body decided that the Ludhiana Medical School should thereafter be called “Arya Medical School” and the hospital attached to it “Dayanand Hospital”.

It was only in the year 1964, consistent with the policy of the Government that the Arya Medical School flowered into a full-fledged MBBS College, which came to be known as Dayanand Medical College. The management of this college was taken over by a galaxy of prominent people of Ludhiana, who formed an organization known as the “Managing Society of Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana” and Late Shri H.R.Dhanda, a prominent industrialist of the town, became its Founder President. Our students are successfully operating in ttheir respective fields and earning reputation as Professionals all over India and Abroad. The college since its inception has students of diverse cultures and backgrounds on its rolls. Budding doctors of Indian originfrom Mauritius , Canada , Phillippines , and presently from the United States of America go through medical texts in the college classrooms along with local students. Almost from everyState of India , we now have students at the Undergraduate(MBBS) and Postgraduate (P.G / Residency) level.Theoretical Training is imparted regularly, utilizing audio visualaids bed side clinics and outpatient clinical teaching is a routine,to provide practical training to the students. During the internship period after the M.B.B.S course. The budding doctors are provided hands on practical training for one year. The college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot. The institution is duly recognized by Medical Council of India for MBBS course as well as several specialty and super specialty courses, which includes MD and MS, in various disciplines.
