      About Govemment Arts Sports College, Jalandhar

      The college was founded in 1961 as State College of Sports at the initiative of S.Pratap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab. The objective in setting up this institution was to produce sportsmen who would fly high the Indian tri-colour at the World Olympics and International sports meets and also of giving them regular university education so as to enable them to find respectable placements in society. It was the only college of its kind in the whole of Asia.
