The college was established in the year 1980 at kantabad.

In 1980, a group of enthusiastic young men of this locality ventured to become the torch bearer of higher education in the area. Several endeavours were made previously but all melted in fiasco. In 1980, in the month of June, final venture was made and Anchalika Mahavidyalaya, Kantabad emerged in the local High School on 24th July, 1980. The college later shifted to its own building on Madhubari mango groove near Banadurga Shakti Sthal in January 1982.

A unique example was set by the ladies of this rural area those who volunteered spontaneously to donate their gold ornaments to materialise the long cherished hope of establishing this college. In no time 80 tolas of gold ornaments were collected from about 50 women. They were mortgaged with a money lender and one lakh rupees was pledged in the name of Utkal University to open immediate Arts classes.

The genesis of Ramamani Mohavidylaya, Kantabada is the time blending of unflinching effort and noble desire of some leading intellectuals of the locality for the creation and dissemination of value based education in this rural area there by bringing social change and development.
