Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) was established in the year 1989, by a team of eminent personalities and young enthusiast of the State of Orissa, to promote excellence in technical educational in the country. The organisatioin's main objective is the overall technical growth of the State of Orissa. The organization has established to its credit a number of govt. approved technical institutions, such as I.T.I., Polytechnic, Degree in Engineering and MCA programmes. In addition, it is managing a number of technical and vocational education programmes and social welfare measures for the overall socio-economic development of the weaker sections of the Society., KIIT is 5 k.m. away from the National Highway, 7 k.m. from the Railway Station and 10 k.m. from the Air Port. A number of major Govt. of India technical institution such as, Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTTC), Regional Research Laboratory, CSIR; Institute of Physics, Dept. of Atomic Energy, etc.are situated within a radius of 2 k.m. to KIIT. The major industrial area of the State, Chandaka Industrial complex is adjacent to KIIT.Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) had a modest beginning as an Industrial Training Institute in 1992. Soon it became one of the best institutes offering technical and management courses in India. Due to its phenomenal progress it became the youngest institute to be regarded as a Deemed University within 6 years of its inception. Earlier it had been accredited by the NBA, AICTE & NAAC for its Engineering, MBA and MCA programs., KIIT has a vision of creating a world class institute providing technical education.
