B. Tech in Biomedical Engineering is an important part of the engineering domain which deals with the study, application of engineering principles, design concepts related to medicine and biology. This branch of engineering aims to combine the design and problem-solving skills of engineering biological science to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring and therapy. Biomedical engineers use their expertise to assist practitioners like doctors and physicians in their healthcare practices. It is a 4-year undergraduate-level B. Tech course that is divided into 8 semesters.
Course Overview
Bioengineering is a multidisciplinary program which integrates principles of biological, physical, chemical, mathematics and life sciences along with different aspects of chemical, mechanical, electrical and computer engineering. It inherits knowledge from molecular to organ system levels, develops biomaterials and devices, involving information and technology management, as well as methods for assessment and evaluation of technology, for biological applications. Bioengineers play an important role in design of medical devices such as artificial internal organs, imaging machines, cardiac pacemakers, and implants etc. which helps people to combat disease and disability. Bioengineers develop biologically compatible materials and bioprosthetic devices, controllers of heart function, artificial retinas, and advanced hearing systems.
Admission Process
- There are multiple stages that need to be completed in order to take admission for the 4-year undergraduate course of B.Tech in Biomedical engineering.
- The procedure starts with candidates taking an engineering entrance exam and on the basis of its outcome a merit list and a cut-off list is released by the respective exam conducting body JOSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).
- The seat allocation and counseling procedure after this exam is also regulated by JOSAA. Seats are allotted on the basis of All India Rank (AIR) obtained by the candidate in JEE Main.
- An age limit is set for these exams which changes every year.
