The Hindi Teachers Training College, Imphal was established in the year 1975 by the Government of Manipur under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme Establishment of Hindi Teachers Training College in Non-Hindi Speaking States, with the creation of 9 posts namely, 3 Lecturers in Hindi, 1 Librarian, 1 UDC, 1 LDC, 2 Grade IV and 1 Chowkidar. The College was inaugurated on 01.11.1975 at its present premise by Late Shri N. Tombi Singh, then Hon?ble MP of Manipur under the aegis of the then Director of Education. The founder Principal of the College was Dr. T. Kunjakishore Singh.
The objective of the College is to fulfil the mandate enshrined in Article 351 of the Constitution of India i.e., to promote the spread of Hindi language and to develop it in the State of Manipur , a non-Hindi speaking State , by conducting training programmes for teaching Hindi on scientific lines and producing efficient Hindi teachers for Jr. High/High/Higher Secondary Schools in the State.
Soon after its establishment, the College got its affiliation to the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan Central Institute of Hindi, Agra which is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education now Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and it started conducting the Hindi Shikshan Parangat programme equivalent to B.Ed. with the same course curriculum and syllabi of the Kendra Hindi Sansthan from the academic year 1976-77. The Government of Manipur subsequently created 1 post of Counter Attendant in the year 1981 and another 12 posts in the year 1984 namely, 1 Principal, 3 Lecturers, 3 LDC, 1 UDC and 4 Grade IV. Presently, the Hindi Teachers Training College has 22 twenty two sanctioned posts.
The Hindi Teachers Training College changed its affiliation to the Manipur University effective from 28.09.1992. The Academic Council of the Manipur University in its meeting held on 09.09.1992 approved the first Regulations and Syllabi for the Hindi Shikshan Parangat examination under Resolution No. 3A C and the Syndicate of the University under its Resolution No. 8/116/15.12.1992 approved the Hindi Shikshan Parangat degree of the University as equivalent to the Bachelor of Education B.Ed. of the University.
The College is recognized by the University Grants Commission under 2 f and 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956 effective from November, 2000. The National Council for Teacher Education NCTE accorded recognition to the Hindi Teachers Training College, Imphal for teaching the Hindi Shikshan Parangat course since the academic session 1997-1998. The syllabi and course structure of the Hindi Shikshan Parangat course conform with the NCTE norms.
