Department of Applied Botany

The department has well equipped laboratories which include Tissue Culture, Microbial culture lab, Botanical gardens, Green house and Glass house. An Arboretum of 2.5 hactares has been established in the University Campus which contains endemic, rare and threatened plants of the Western Ghats. Another arboretum of about 25 ha. Established at Pilikula Nisarga Dhama near Mangalore, contains several species of plants of Western Ghats. The arboretum is used as a training centre in environmental awareness for youths and training on eco friendly agriculture methods for farmers. Computer networking facility with internet is also available in the department.

The department possesses major equipment like Double Beem Spectrophotometer, Binocular Research Microscope with computerized photographic attachment, Binocular Stereomicroscope with photographic attachment, Plant Water Status console, Plant Efficiency Analyser complete with accessories, Binocular inverted Microscope, Freeze dryer, Plant growth cabinets, Seed germinators, Thermal cycler, Cyclotec Sample Mill, Cooling Centrifuge, Gel Documentation System, Water activity meter, Computer with accessories.
