FLAME Foundation for Liberal And Management Education was founded in 2004, by Mr Nemish Shah Founder Director, FLAME; Philanthropist; Financial Advisor and Founder, ENAM Financial Consultants Pvt Ltd and Mr Parag Shah Founder Chairman, FLAME; Entrepreneur of series of enterprises with a desire to give something back to society. They decided to create an educational institute that did not conform to the norms and rote education that was prevalent in India.

FLAME’s educational philosophy is rooted in the concept of liberal education, a system of instruction that transcends the artificial divisions that exist between disciplines and unmasks the underlying unity of all knowledge. It urges the student to engage with multiple disciplines in order to view issues from different perspectives leading to deeper understanding and better solution of problems. At the core of its educational experience is its resolute emphasis on lifelong learning, critical thinking, tolerance, and good citizenship.

The University prepares students for leading purposeful lives rather than specific and narrow professions. It does this in a participatory, personalized environment which provides a transformational experience for the students with the motivation and skills to change the world for the better. FLAME has been created as an academic institution anchored in Liberal Education. It is the pioneer of Liberal Education in India. The objective of Liberal Education at FLAME is to go beyond the known and familiar structured and narrowly encapsulated forms of knowledge. The aim is to provide students a learning experience that would excite and enthuse them. The education at FLAME University rests in multiplicity and simultaneity, as well as in making active choices from all that is made available. The focus is on experiencing, learning, self-reflection and self-discovery by freeing themselves from the traditional ways of looking at things and instead to constantly question and challenge themselves, society and the world at large. The purpose is to give the country and the young generation an academic institution that fires the imagination of students to discover the magic and passion in themselves, to foster their creativity, to propel their innovativeness and determination to create, build and shape new enterprises.
