Balchitravani, the State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) was set up by Government of Maharashtra (initially at Mumbai) under the Centrally sponsored scheme of ‘INSAT FOR EDUCATION’ in February, 1984 for planning and production of educational audio & video software for the school children and teachers of Primary and secondary schools in the State.
In June, 1986, the Institute was shifted from Mumbai to Pune and it was renamed as ‘BALCHITRAVANI’ on 14th November, 1988.
The Institute is registered under the Societies Registration Act 1960 on 9th March, 1992 and has since been granted ‘Autonomous Status’. SIET, Pune, functions under the administrative control of the Government of Maharashtra and continues to be fully funded and supported by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under its Educational Technology scheme.
Balchitravani nestles at the foot of the picturesque Hanuman Hill of Pune, a city which stands for a vast cultural, historical, industrial and educational heritage. Balchitravani has emerged as a landmark in children education through audio and video programmes. Since its inception the Institute has been actively involved in making learning experience joyful.
