MIDS, Chennai PhD Admission 2024 – Applications are open for admission to the Ph.D. program at MIDS. Candidates who have received fellowships from UGC or any other funding agency for a minimum of three years to conduct doctoral research in the fields of Economics, History, and Development Studies are encouraged to apply.

Candidates who do not have a fellowship but are interested in applying for the ICSSR Institutional Doctoral Fellowship may also submit their applications to the Institute. However, the final selection for the ICSSR fellowship is solely determined by ICSSR.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) or equivalent grade point average in Economics, History, or Development Studies are eligible to apply.

Employed applicants must provide written consent from their employer upon joining the program.

  • Candidates should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET), possess an M.Phil Degree, or have one year of research experience, with two years being desirable.
  • Age: Candidates should not exceed 35 years of age (with a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates)

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test and an interview. Candidates who have obtained UGC-Junior Research Fellowships for PhD will be exempted from the written test and directly called for the interview. The final selection from the shortlisted candidates will be based strictly on the quality of the research proposal, evaluation of the candidate’s performance in the written test, interview, and the availability of Supervisors in their area of specialization.
