Eligibility Criteria:
Minimum Qualifications for PhD Admission:
For admission to PhD programs in Engineering, Science, Planning & Architecture, Management, and Humanities & Social Sciences, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Master’s Degree in Relevant Discipline:
- ME/MTech/MScEngg/MPharm/MArch/MPlan/MDes with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks or 1st class in BE/BTech/BSc Engg/MSc/BPharm/MCA/BArch/BDes or equivalent.
- ME/MTech/MScEngg/MPharm/MArch/MPlan/MDes from a recognized Technical Institute or University.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Relevant Discipline:
- BE/BTech/BSc Engg/MSc/BPharm/MCA/BArch/BDes or equivalent with CGPA of 7.0 or 65% marks.
- MSc in Basic Sciences:
- CGPA 7.0 or 65% marks in relevant disciplines. For those with valid GATE/NET/GPAT or equivalent score, requirement may be relaxed by maximum 0.5 CGPA or 5% marks.
- Medical or Veterinary Sciences:
- MBBS/BVSc with CGPA 6.5 or 60% marks or 1st class.
Additional Qualifications for Management and Humanities & Social Sciences:
Candidates with the following qualifications can also apply for PhD in Management and Humanities & Social Sciences:
- MA/MCom/MBA/MSc in Humanities and Social Sciences or Management or BTech with 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks or 1st class.
Additional Criteria:
- Candidates must maintain a minimum 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks or 1st class throughout their academic career, with exceptions at the discretion of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC).
- Reserved Category candidates may be relaxed 0.5 CGPA or 5% at the +2 level.
- For Engineering and Science disciplines (except Life Science), Mathematics at +2 Science or Diploma is required.
- Science students entering PhD programs in Engineering/Physics/Mathematics must have passed Mathematics at +3 level, or they must complete additional Mathematics and Computer Science courses.
- Life Science or Biological Science must be passed at +2 or +3 level for admission to PhD in Life Science department.
- Students without a qualifying degree in the primary discipline may need to undertake additional coursework, unless exempted by the Senate.

Selection Procedure
- Selection will be made on the basis of academic record, relevance of qualification, candidate’s research interest, existing research programs and facilities of the departments, and performance of the candidate in written tests and/or interviews.
