Located in This institution is one of the oldest, most reputed, well equipped and well planned colleges of Madhya Pradesh. The college, situated in the heart of the city on N.H.7, had celebrated its centenary in 1983 in the auspicious presence of the then honorable President of India. This college has produced a large number of luminaries in various walks of life. Govt. Thakur Rranmat Singh college has a long prestigious history, earlier it was called Darbar college. In the year 1880, previously, it was known as Darbar High school, with the establishment of Darbar High school, modern education was initiated in Rewa. In the year 1935 it was upgraded and renamed as Darbar Inter mediate college.In the year 1944 teaching of under graduate classes were started and thus the Darbar inter mediate college became Darbar Degree college. Post graduate classes ware started in the year 1948. Then on 15 Aug. 1957 the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh changed the name of Darbar college and renamed it Thakur Ranmat Singh College, in the Honour and memory of the great immortal martyr Thakur Ranmat Singh, freedom fighter of 1857., The Deptt. Of Higher education, M.P. conferred autonomy on this college in 1995-96 and center for excellence in 2002-03. This college was declared Autonomous by the State Government and the UGC in 1995-96 and at present it's autonomy stands extended upto session 2012-2013. This college alone enjoys the privilege to be chosen as Centre for Excellence in the erstwhile Vindhya Pradesh. The scheme of 'excellence' in Higher Education was examined and scrutinised at a state level meeting at Bhopal and this college won appreciation vide minutes of Agenda no.17. Since its birth this institution has been developing and crossing the hurdles one by one it has reached to its present form and fame., This college enjoys the rarest reputation for providing Post Graduate courses in Humanities, Computer Science, Bio Chemistry, Bio Informatics, Social Science, Commerce and Library Science. Under self financing scheme BCA as under graduate course and M.Sc. in computer science, Bio chemistry, MicroBiology, Bio Informatics, Bio technology is introduced in session 2007-08 and B.B.A, B.A.LL.B, Diploma in Public Add., P.G. Diploma in journalism, M. Phill. ( Arts & Commerce) were introduced in session 2008-09, where M.S.W. was introduced recently in the session 2009-10., It is a research centre and most of the Staff members have Doctorate Degree and they are supervising research scholars as research guides. It is a matter of pride for this institution that most of the students who passed out of this college represent various dignified posts in the field of Executive, Judiciary, Legislature, Education, Science and Medicine in this country and abroad. It takes pride in its meritorious teachers who have left indelible marks in the realms of learning and scholarship. It has the honour of sending N.C.C cadets as representatives to the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. The college has produced large number of champions in the field of sports who have represented the college at the State and National levels. The Autonomy of the college grants us freedom to determine and prescribe our own courses of study and syllabi according to the needs of the hour and to achieve higher standards of education. The modern tools of educational technology such as multi-media, audio-visual aids, language lab, over head projectors, and so on are used to achieve higher standard of education and creativity. Though it is a Government college, we have 'Jan Bhagidari Samiti’ and ‘Governing Body’ formed according to the guidelines of the government. There are different committees to scrutinize, regulate, advise, and to assist the administration.
