The University Institute of Computer Science and Application (UICSA) Rani Durgawati University, Jabalpur is an autonomous institute within the jurisdiction of R.D. University, Jabalpur established in the year, 1993 by a resolution of the executive council of the university. The UICSA is supported by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and is recognized by the AICTE. It boasts of impressive guest faculty including those from prestigious institutes like IIT's, REC's and several universities like JNU, Delhi, Pune, B.H.U. etc. It organizes a lively interaction with dozens of industries. The pattern of study includes lecture, practical, projects, case studies, workshops which helps the students to grasp the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of the applications of Computer Education by business / industrial world. The main objectives of the Institute is to impart instructions to young and deserving students under various programmes related to the computer science and technology and its ever increasing application in diverse areas of scientific research Industries and society at large.The three year full time program of Master Degree in Computer Applications (MCA) is the main program offered by the Institute, besides its applications in mathematical researches in approximate theory, Computer Graphics, CAGD, Computational Mathematics Commutative algebra etc. in addition the Institute, alongwith the Dept. of Mathematics, has just started the program, M.Sc. (Computer Science) also, with the total intake of about 15 students to start with. Numerous activities in the from of Certificate courses, Refresher courses for College teachers and training program for talented students drawn from across the country sponsored are organized on regular basis. The construction of the new UICSA building is under way. Where in spacious lecture halls, library and laboratory etc. have been planned.

The Department of Computer Science has established University Institute of Computer Science and Application, Jabalpur. Government of Madhya Pradesh will be allocating land (10 hectares) for the development of the campus and will also contribute towards project finances. The institute aims to produce leadership manpower capable of harnessing and augmenting, the potential of information Technology in an integrated manner with management skills and training for. The campus developmental work to create wired campus and smart buildings with futuristic provisions has started. The campus is strategically located at Pachpedi.

The selection here is through a common test for many colleges - MP-Pre MCA Test, for all colleges in MP. This is yet another exam where the chances of selection are very high. This is owing to a large number of seats spread over about 30 colleges. Total about 30 seats. Maths + Statistics till graduation level is covered. UICSA is the best institute through this test because of the great placements. Exam generally held in Dec-Jan.

The student has to First pass a National level Entrance Examination (Pre-MCA). The overall process is as follows:

All Indian Written Admission Test conducted by Professional Examination Board Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal and the entire process is known as Pre-MCA Entrance Test. The institute being the premier institute of the state of M.P. enjoys the preference of top scorers of Pre-MCA. The maximum marks in written paper are 600.

Those students who have successfully passed written exam go to second phase of testing where they have to appear for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Institutional Infrastructure

Computer laboratories

Computer laboratories are a constant hub of activity through the day and night. The state-of-the computing facility available include 34 Pentium nodes connected on a network in a distributed Windows NT/95 environment. All nodes are connected through 10/100 Ethernet LAN with Pentium II Novel Netware based server. All these nodes have Internet connectivity through a Proxy server. Application Software like Visual Basic 5.0, Power Builder, Visual C++ 5.0, Developer 2000, Office 97, SPSS, Visual J++, Auto CAD 12 are also available and many more are being added. The Oracle 8.0 Database with 10 users licensed will be installed on server very soon. Students extensively use these for data analysis, seminars and presentations and projects apart from the regular experiments as part of the curriculum. Printing facilities include high speed Laser, Ink Jet and Dot Matrix printers. A separate specialized computing facility is being set up to impart training and carry out research and consultancy in the area of electronic commerce. Beside this a computing facility in hostel with Internet connection is also being set-up.
