Panampilly Memorial Government College, Chalakudy (known locally as ‘Panampilly College’ ) is cradled in the bewitching landscape between Kanakamala, an extension of the eastern mountain ranges and Athirappilly-Vazhachal waterfalls. The lush green campus offers an atmosphere of idyllic serenity ideal for higher learning.
The college is named after the late Panampilly Govinda Menon, one of the architects of modern Kerala. It was originally started on the campus of the Basic Training School in 1975. The college was affiliated as a Junior College to Calicut University on June 27, 1975 with two batches of Pre-degree students of 80 each in III and IV Groups. In 1979 it was upgraded to a degree college with B.Com. BA in Economics was started in 1985 and B.Sc. Mathematics in 1998.

The introduction of the MA course in Development Economics in 1999 elevated the college to the status of a postgraduate college. BA Political science was also started in the same year. M.Com., the second PG programme came in 2004. The college also boasts of other state-of-the-art infrastructure such as Satellite Interactive Terminal (SIT), INFLIBNET, Language Lab, Physical Fitness Centre and a Computer Lab.
Though the college is still in its infancy as far as the number of academic programmes is concerned, it has always registered excellent performance in all university examinations which has always stood between 90 – 100 %. Honours have also come in its way at university examinations in MA Economics and BA Political Science..
