College of Forestry of the Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur, the only institution accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi for teaching tropical forestry in the state of Kerala, India. Nestled in the western ghats and surrounded by its pristine forests, the College has dared to travel along innovative ways and built up an infrastructure that is unparalleled in the forestry training scenario of the state with the result that it is rated as one of the leading centres of education, research and extension in tropical forestry in the whole country.The College offers both Bachelor's and Master's degree programme in Forestry, besides offering special consultancy services in forestry and natural resources.
College of Forestry, one of the ten constituent colleges under Kerala Agricultural University was established in 1986 at Vellanikkara, Thrissur district, Kerala, State, India. The major objective of the college is to provide education in forest science besides undertaking research on basic and applied aspects of tropical forestry.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India has identified the Kerala Agricultural University as one of the Institutions to start forestry education programme and accordingly, the College of Forestry was established in this University in 1986. Since then, the College of Forestry was functioning as a constituent college of the Faculty of Agriculture till 2012. However, considering the importance of forestry education, a separate Faculty of Forestry was constituted in 2012. The College presently is under this faculty.
Mission
Forestry colleges were started in various State Agricultural Universities of the country to provide the much-needed impetus to forestry education and research in the country. This being the prime aspiration, the College of Forestry was established at Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) with the mandate of developing human resource required in the field of forestry such as Silviculture, agro forestry , forest management, tree breeding, wildlife, wood science and other related areas. The goal is to train professionals in Forestry so that they can take up the challenges for the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources of the country in an effective manner.
