Admission Notices

    The Department of Physics was established in 1959 as one of the departments of Providence Women’s College affiliated to the University of Calicut. Sr.Geralda, was the efficient and energetic founder Head of the Department. The department had to handle only pre-degree and subsidiary classes till 1972. B.Sc. classes started in 1972 and M.Sc. started in 1998. The goal and objective of the department was to undertake graduate and post graduate teaching and impart research training to students who opt for advanced studies in Physics. The Department of Physics has hitherto continuously maintained a creditable record of graduate and post graduate teaching in Physics.

    The Department conducts teaching programs leading to B.Sc and M.Sc degrees. The students to the various courses are selected according to their merit. The M.Sc courses are conducted in four semesters with lecture classes and a research oriented presentation in the last semester. The teaching is imparted by well-trained teachers who have gained reputation in their fields. Most of the teachers have experience of working in other Indian laboratories and has obtained substantial knowledge in the modern developments in physical sciences. The Department also frequently conducts talks and seminars for the students in selected areas of Physics. The department has also organized many National seminars and invited reputed scientists to deliver special lectures from time to time.
