Acharya First Grade College for Women, Gauribidanur, Kolar District, Karnataka, was established in the year 1982 by a registered Society called 'The National and Rural Education Association' to promote educational progress of women in the surrounding rural area. Late G.A. Acharya was the Founder President of the Society. He was a philanthropist, an Educationist and an Industrialist. The College is a Grant-in-aid institution with a campus area of about 5 acres of land. It is affiliated to Bangalore University and is recognized by UGC under 2f since 1994.

The College offers two graduate programs - B A and B Com and the total student strength is 388. Both courses are under grant-in-aid from the State Government. The College has 6 departments - Kannada, English, History, Economics, Political Science and Commerce - with a qualified faculty of 9 permanent teachers, one Librarian and a Physical Education Director. 12 Non-teaching employees support the administration. The College follows semester system for the first and second years of the degree program, and annual system for third year as per the norms of the affiliating university. It works for a total number of 290 days of which 209 are for teaching. The support services and facilities in the college include a Central Library, Computer Room, Sports facilities and Open Air Auditorium.
