    The erstwhile Government of Mysore was pleased to start a Law College on July 1, 1948 in Bangalore, known as the Government Law College. By an order dated. 19.6.1976 the Government Law College was transferred to Bangalore University and since then the college is known as University Law College, Bangalore. The University Law College, Bangalore has been offering LL.B., programme. The LL.B., course initially was of 2 years and later became a course of 3 years. The 5 years full-time B.A., LL.B degree course was introduced by the Bangalore -University in 1986-87. The students admitted are trained to gain confidence in their profession and make them suitable to any profession that come in their way. To realize this objective, each year the ULC has been admitting 100 students to each of the semesters from first to fifth year.The college and Post Graduate Department are housed in a spacious building situated on a sprawling campus. There are eight class rooms with state of art facility to conduct teaching sessions for both LL.B., & LL.M., programms, two seminar halls, an independent library and an administrative block providing independent chambers for Principal, Chairman & all teaching faculty members. The students and teachers are provided computers with internet facility. In addition the hostel facility is made available for both boys & girls. The New campus also has the rain harvesting system. The library has a total collection of 45,000 books, 16,000 journals and 18,000 other reference materials.

    The Master degree in Law was started in the year 1960-61 as M.L. Degree course. After becoming part of the Bangalore University in 1976, the P.G. Department of Studies & Research in Law has been offering LL.M programme in 5 different branches with an intake of 10 students under the general admission policy laid down by the Government and 2 students per branch under payment seats category with enhanced fees. The LL.M programme in Business Law, Labour, Capital and Law, Environment and Legal Order, Criminal law and Constitution and Legal Order has been a story of great success. A majority of the students who have passed out the LL.M., programme are in different positions of life like judges, leading lawyers, academicians, bureaucrats and corporate advisors. The programme utilizes the services of a few leading practitioners in addition to the regular teaching and seminar work conducted by the faculty members. The University Law College, Bangalore University, located in the garden city of Bangalore (also called Bengaluru), is a pioneer legal-education institution in the state of Karnataka. The college, popularly known as ULC - Bangalore, is widely recognized as one of the country’s best government run law schools. It has consistently been ranked amongst the top law colleges in India by India Today in its annual reports, with the highlight being ranked as the 2nd best law college in the country for the years 2001 and 2004.

    The Faculty of Law of Bangalore University offers courses both at UG and PG level. The University Law College (ULC) is the only constituent college of law directly administered by the Bangalore University. Dr. T. R. Subramanya is the present Chairman & Dean, Faculty of Law of Bangalore University. Dr.K.M.H.Rayappa serves as the present Principal of ULC. ULC hosts a few well-qualified and experienced faculty and a resourceful administrative staff.The visiting guest-lecturers and professors, mostly legal practitioners, lend flexibility and expertise to the academic staff of ULC.In the era of privatization and commercialization of education in India, ULC continues to uphold the philanthropic tradition in Indian education by dispensing affordable legal education and reaching out to every strata of the society. With a fee structure that amounts to a fraction of the fee charged by most private legal institutions in India, ULC continues to provide its students with the platform to equip themselves with knowledge they can apply to influence legal and social causes.
