The Regional Institute of Cooperative Management (RICM), Bangalore is one of the prestigious Management Institutes in the cooperative sector. It caters to the training requirements of executives of cooperative enterprises, personnel of cooperation, other departments of Government of Karnataka and other State Governments in the southern states. As a management development institute, it is actively involved in creating business culture and entrepreneurial spirit in the cooperative sector.

This Institute was established at first in Tirupathi in the state of Andhra Pradesh under the name “Cooperative Training Centre” for catering the training requirements of cooperatives and cooperative departments in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. This training center was shifted from Tirupathi to Bangalore in the year 1962 when a separate cooperative training college was established at Hyderabad for the State of Andhra Pradesh. When it was shifted to Bangalore in 1962 its area of operation was confined to Kerala and Karnataka States. Later on, its nomenclature was changed from Cooperative Training Centre to Cooperative Training College. In 1976 National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT), New Delhi established a separate Cooperative Training College at Trivandrum and afterwards the jurisdiction of this Institute (College) was reduced to only Karnataka. On 01/07/1991 the nomenclature of this Institute like other Institutes in the country was again changed from Cooperative Training College to the Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM) with an objective to develop the Institute comparable to other reputed management Institutions in the country.

A mention essentially required to be made here is that our ICM is the first Institute among all other 18 sister Institutes under the umbrella of NCCT in the country to be considered by the Government of India and National Council for Cooperative Training for upgradation, because of its best and adequate infra-structural facilities, operations and faculty position. The status of this Institute was therefore, upgraded as Regional Institute of Cooperative Management (RICM), Bangalore in the year of 1996. Now its jurisdiction is extended to all southern states, viz. Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry.

The Institute is housed with an imposing structure and architectural beauty spread over 5.34 acres of land in Padmanaba Nagar, Bangalore allotted by the Government of Karnataka in 1980. As it is the 25th year since the land was allotted, the Institute is celebrating the Silver Jubilee of the new Campus. We owe our gratitude to late Sri R. Gundu Rao, the then Chief Minister of the Karnataka State who was mainly responsible for providing government land on 99 years lease basis.

The Government of India, Government of Karnataka and State level and other Cooperatives donated generously for the construction of this building. The complex consists of administrative block, library, class rooms, conference and seminar halls, discussion rooms, computer labs., audio-visual center, cooperative community center and a well furnished hostel. The campus is set in the background of majestic green and coconut groves.

Cooperative Training Complex
In order to have an integration of all apex level cooperative training and Management Institutions in the State in one campus, in addition to RICM, Bangalore, the Staff Training Institute of Karnataka State Cooperative Agricultural. & Rural Development Bank Ltd., Agrl. Cooperative Staff Training Institute of Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd., National Institute for Rural Banking (NIRB), CICOPA, RICM Cultural Association, RICM Cooperative Credit & Supply Society Ltd., Cafeteria, Cooperative Recreation Hall, Cooperative Consumer Stores of CICOPA have been established in our campus. Hence, RICM can be considered as an Integrated Cooperative Training Complex. So far, our Institute has trained 5140 participants for the Diploma Programmes and 16,620 participants for the Short Term Programmes.

The years that have gone by have been the most eventful, satisfying and memorable experience ever since our institution has been raised to this magnificent edifice, brick by brick as the years rolled. The academic excellence, laurels in extracurricular activities and infrastructural development are proof enough to substantiate the development of our institution. The growth has amplified the aura and authenticity of the college. It has aimed at the all round development of the students both physical and mental so that they are all better equipped to face the challenges in them.
