Acharya Pathasala Evening College of arts and commerce was started in 1964 with the sole purpose of providing quality collegiate education to the socially and economically challenged students. The college is a premier institution in Bengaluru that offers Pre-university and Degree courses during the evening hours for the benefits of employees. During the early years of its inception, the college was affiliated to University of Mysore; However the college is now affiliated to Bangalore University. The college came under grant-in-aid scheme in 1969 through a government order (ED 90-UPC69 Bangalore dated 31-10-1969).

A.P.S. Evening College of Arts and Commerce has achieved the distinguished status of being “the first” at least in three respects. A.P.S. Evening College of Arts and Commerce was established in 1964 as an outcome of the persistent request of employees residing in the southern part of Bangalore city who had no facilities to improve their qualification and prospects. It was the “first” Evening College to have been opened in the State (1964). It was the “first” Evening College to come to under Grant-in-aid scheme in the State (1969). It is the “first” Evening College to has been granted permanent affiliation by the Bangalore University.
