Engineering is the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical & natural sciences gained by study, experience & practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize economically the materials & forces of nature for benefit of mankind. With the constant emergence of oversew technology, engineering continues to develop new areas of professional specialty, each with definite educational needs. Hence arises the necessity of specialized institutions that impart complete yet comprehensive & technically quality based education in various fields of engineering. With this aim , the Government of INDIA & specifically the Ministry of Human Resource & Development undertook the task of opening several engineering institutes with latest R&D facilities at the under-graduate & post-graduate level. Regional Institute of Technology is one of the seventeen RECs jointly sponsored by the central and state governments. It was started in the year 1960. Since then, it has evolved into a beautiful campus with a modern administrative building, library & classrooms with state-of-the-art laboratories, computer centre & workshop. There are several hostels and residential quarters spread over 380 acres on the bank of the river Kharkai. The institute is affiliated to the Ranchi University for awarding degree for the various courses offered by the college. The institute has a unique advantage of being situated in Jamshedpur; the birth-place of an industrial giant -- the TATA group of companies like TISCO, TELCO, Tata tubes etc. There are a host of small scale industries & reputed institutes like the National Metallurgical Laboratory and National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology . The institute has successfully been shaping the career of the students for over four decades. It has come up as a seat of scientific & technological learning, instilling a sense of purpose and imparting an integrated personality to the young learners. Academic qualification Inter (Sc) or equivalent with Eng, Phy, Chem and Maths taken together in one attempt securing 60% marks in aggregate of Phy, Chem and Maths from institutions located in Bihar (SC/ST candidates a mere pass in qualifying exam). Candidates should be physically fit. Application Procedure Admission form and syllabus for entrance exam can be obtained from the principal, RIT, Jamshedpur on payment of requisite amount. Completed application alongwith demand draft for Rs 275 as entrance exam fee by bank draft should reach Bihar Council of combined Entrance Competitive Exam by the notified date. Selection Admission to 50% seats (Bihar Quota) in RIT, Jamshedpur and other Regional Engineering Colleges is made on merit in Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Exam (BCECE).
