With the constant emergence of oversew technology, engineering continues to develop new areas of professional specialty, each with definite educational needs. Hence arises the necessity of specialized institutions that impart complete yet comprehensive & technically quality based education in various fields of engineering. With this aim , the Government of INDIA & specifically the Ministry of Human Resource & Development undertook the task of opening several engineering institutes with latest R&D facilities at the under-graduate & post-graduate level. Regional Institute of Technology is one of the seventeen RECs jointly sponsored by the central and state governments. It was started in the year 1960. Since then, it has evolved into a beautiful campus with a modern administrative building, library & classrooms with state-of-the-art laboratories, computer centre & workshop. There are several hostels and residential quarters spread over 380 acres on the bank of the river Kharkai. The institute is affiliated to the Ranchi University for awarding degree for the various courses offered by the college. The institute has a unique advantage of being situated in Jamshedpur; the birth-place of an industrial giant -- the TATA group of companies like TISCO, TELCO, Tata tubes etc. There are a host of small scale industries & reputed institutes like the National Metallurgical Laboratory and National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology .
