An educational institution is as good as its product and its product is as good as its teacher and the teacher is as good as the infrastructure of an institution.

The Graduate School College for Women came up in 1971 with ten students. Today we are a constituent unit of Kolhan University dealing with about eight thousand students. We cater to the urban and semi urban educational requirements in and around the Steel City of Jamshedpur in the state of Jharkhand. The college believes that excellence is an attribute to be aspired for, in order to keep abreast of all literary and scientific achievements as knowledge is synonymous with power in the current era.

The institution aimed at offering a diversified field of knowledge to girl students in order to enable them to acquire a mentally, physically and spiritually balanced wholesome personality.

Accordingly the college started graduation level courses in Arts and Commerce followed by branches of Science. This institution happens to be the first women's college to offer Commerce at the graduation level in the whole of undivided Bihar since 1971. The college teaches honours degree course in Arts, Commerce and Science subjects including Statistics. Later the college started B Ed course in 2005 with the approval of NC T E, Bhubaneswar. Vocational courses on Self Financing basis were started as B Com Vocational degree and B.Sc. Vocational degree courses.Computer Applications. Skill development certificate courses in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai have been initiated recently. As per the demand of students the University has given permission to conduct Post Graduation programmes in some subjects since 2011.

VISION
To make a qualitative change in the paradigm shift defining the field of higher education in weaker sections of the Urban and Rural areas of Kolhan through the combination of grit and perseverance of self and acquired quality education, evaluation and self-sustenance.

MISSION
The mission of this institution first and foremost is empowerment of girls belonging to all strata of society. As the affluent strata are already empowered therefore special emphasis is required forstudents belonging to lower and middle sections of society.
