Giridih is one of the districts of Jharkhand, carved out from Hazaribagh
district in 1972. Giridih in local language literally means the land of hills & hillocks: giri, means hills and dih, stands for upland. Giridih is home to Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and one of the six Data Processing Centres of Data Processing Division (DPD) of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO).
