About Giridih


Giridih is one of the districts of Jharkhand, carved out from Hazaribagh district in 1972. Giridih in local language literally means the land of hills & hillocks: giri, means hills and dih, stands for upland. Giridih is home to Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and one of the six Data Processing Centres of Data Processing Division (DPD) of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO).



Giridih has many prestigious colleges such as Giridih College, Sri Ram Krishna Mahila College and lots more



Giridih has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 63%.
