Govt. Degree College for women was established in the year 2008 Vide Govt. Order No: 269 HE of 2007 Dated: 20-12-2007 for promoting female education and to diffuse the rush at GDC Pulwama. The college stands recognized by University Grants Commission New Delhi vide Order No. FNo.8-161/2011 CPP-I/C Dated: 29-11-2011.

The college was housed in Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Pulwama upto 2013 and is currently running in the new campus at By Pass Crossing Koil Road Dangerpora Pulwama. The college curricular activities are mainly carried out in its spacious well designed huge building. In addition the college has a separate admission block, smart classroom, and two very nice student relaxing halls. The college is spread over a sprawling campus of 8 acres. It offers a three year bachelor’s degree in Arts, Science and Commerce streams.

It is pertinent to mention that for women, it is the only college in Shopian and Pulwama Districts where education is imparted exclusively to girls.
