Mahanpur is a newly created Tehsil in Kathua district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Earlier, Mahanpur was a town in Tehsil Basohli. It is located about 33 KM North towards from District head quarters Kathua and 119 KM from State capital Jammu winter and 299 from Srinagar summer.

Government Model Degree College Mahanpur is a budding college situated in the lap of beautiful hills connecting Jammu, Basohli and Himachal Pradesh. It is spread over sixty five canals of land and is at a distance of about 1.5 Km from Mahanpur main town. The foundation stone of this college was laid by honorable Minister for Wildlife and Forests Ch Lal Singh in 2011.

Surrounded by rich flora and fauna, the college provides a conducive environment and wonderful platform for students of this region and its surrounding rural areas. Since its inception in 2011, the college has created a niche for itself in the rising competition with students taking part at competitions held at University level. At present, the college offers nine subjects in Humanities and soon Sciences are likely to be introduced.

The college is the first in J&K with advanced gym equipped with latest biomechanical machinery for recreational and extracurricular activities of students. The library has a rare collection of over ten thousand books with spacious seating arrangement open on all days for all the people.
