Established in 1981, the MIER College of Education has the distinction of being the first college of education in Jammu region in private sector. The college stands recognized by the J&K Government, is permanently affiliated to the University of Jammu and is also approved by the University Grants Commission. The college was first in J&K state to acquire ISO 9001: 2000 certification and to be accredited with ‘A Grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC.

Model Institute of Education and Research MIER was founded as a school ‘Model Academy’ in 1936 by the eminent educationist Late Professor H.L. Gupta 1912-1983. He along with his life partner an able educationist Mrs. Shanti Gupta 1919-1999 nurtured the Institution with selfless dedication and vision before it was incorporated in 1975 as Model Institute of Education and Research.

MIER is an Autonomous, Non-Profit Making, Non-Governmental Organisation devoted to the promotion of education, general, technical and professional, research, training, social welfare and new technologies according to the best emerging trends. The institute has emerged as a prestigious and trend setting Institution for optimal human resources development at different levels in diverse spheres utilizing formal and non-formal techniques on the principles of excellence, quality, self-reliance, collaboration, innovation, sharing, networking and service to society.

MIER is an approved scientific, industrial and research organisation of the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The institute is also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs for receipt of foreign assistance / contributions. The policies of MIER are governed by a galaxy of top educationists who are represented on its various advisory bodies and committees.

The legacy and mission of the founders is being carried forward ably by the present Chairman Dr. Arun K. Gupta and Director Dr. Mrs. Renu Gupta under whose dynamic leadership MIER is making rapid progress. The third generation has also joined them in this noble endeavour.

The Institute has its own two campuses with modern facilities at the B.C. Road, and Kot Bhalwal, Jammu J&K State-180001, India where learning needs for over 4000 learners are being met, from the preschool to the post-doctoral levels. The staff of the Institute numbering over 300 is highly qualified, experienced and competent.
