About Department of Physics
Background, academic mission, and departmental profile
The department was established in 1970 with BSc (Physics) Honours and Pass courses. The M.Sc. (Physics) programme was started in 1985 with specializations in Materials Science (1986), Laser Spectroscopy and Theoretical Physics (1995). It has a PhD program which was started in 1985. The department has DRS status under UGC's SAP program with the thrust area of Nuclear High Energy and Condensed Matter Physics.
The department continuously revises its syllabi; introduce new experiments at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It has also received a UGC project on superconductivity. The Faculty members have participated in about fifty national / international workshops and conferences including more than than twenty-five academic visits abroad.
