Admission Notices

    The college is situated in the heart of the city. The building has three blocks – Arts block, Science block and Commerce block, surrounded by spacious lawns and extensive playgrounds. The building includes two hostels to provide accommodation to students as well as staff with a separate residence for the principal. It is complete with a Library building, multi-purpose hall, common room, canteen , a tuck shop and visitor’s a room. A new building of 12 rooms was added in 2004.A new building of 12 rooms was added in 2005.

    The college originally affiliated to Punjab University is now affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. At present there are 1800 students studying in the college.

    Fateh Chand College for Women, Hisar owes its origin to Late Rai Fateh Chand, a retired irrigation engineer of Lahore, who, in his last will, created a Trust of his property, to establish a college at Lahore for the education of Hindu girls and women. The college started in 1935 at Lahore has since been striving for a happy synthesis of western learning and Hindu culture especially in regard to womanly ideals. After the partition this college was re-established in 1954 at Hisar. The credit goes to Late Pandit Thakur Dass Bhargava, Seth Jaswant Rai, Pandit Nanak Chand, Seth Mahesh Chander, Bakshi Ram Kishan Ji and Babu Mahabir Prasad Jain and many other social workers. Their unending efforts helped the institution to re-establish in Hisar The College striving to achieve the aims and objectives for which it was set up in Lahore, now occupies a unique place amongst the educational institutions of the region. Under the guidance of Babu Mahabir Prasad Jain, honest intentions and hard work of Dr. Rajender Prasad and founder Principal Bhai Bal Mukandji (1956-1958) this college became popular in cities and villages of Punjab which also included the present Haryana. Seth Mahesh Chander (Grandson of Rai Fateh Chand) and Mr. Anand Parkash Bhargava remained very active members of the managing committee throughout their lives.

    Ms. Janki Chopra, the second principal of the college known for her administrative abilities took the institution to great heights. Under her able and dynamic leadership the college made all- round progress. Known for her strict discipline and dedication to the cause of female education she was revered by teachers and students alike. The college was fortunate to have such an enterprising personality at the helm of affairs. During her tenure the college marched ahead and earned a name and a place of pride. She served as principal of F.C. College from 1958 to 1979. After her retirement she was appointed member of the Trust Society and General Secretary of local Governing Body of the college.

    Dr. Janak Narendra was appointed principal of the college in Nov 1979. During her tenure as principal (1979-1996) two new faculties – Music (Vocal) and Commercial Arts were introduced. Multi-purpose hall was also built during her time.

    Mrs. Satya Bhaskar was appointed principal of the college in March 1996. During her tenure as principal (1996-1999) a Computer Centre was set up in the college, Commerce Stream was started, Functional English was introduced as one of the elective subjects in B.A. and Old Students' Association was formed. Multi-purpose hall was made sound proof and the construction of a new library building was started by her efforts.

    After the retirement of Mrs. Satya Bhaskar, Mrs. Shashi Bagria took over the charge as acting principal in Nov 1999. During her term the work of Functional English Laboratory was completed and the foundation stone of a new library building was laid. She retired in January 2000 and Mrs. Gita Davar took over the charge as acting principal. She maintained a disciplined atmosphere in the college. The new library building was completed during her tenure.

    Dr. (Mrs. ) Shamim Sharma joined F.C.College as principal on 21.6.2001. Objective viewpoint and positive thinking made her a good administrator. All-round development of the students and overall progress of the college was her main concern. During this period Masters in Commerce was introduced and at the undergraduate level Psychology, Fashion Designing and Sociology subjects were introduced in the college curriculum. The process to introduce add-on courses was also initiated.Two music rooms, and a spacious common room and an additional block in the hostel for girls were also constructed.

    National level workshop on blood donation and a camp where about 954 units of blood was collected, were organised in the college. Besides, exhibition on small scale newspapers and magazines and hindi greeting cards was also held. The college was evaluated by the National Assessment Accreditation Committee and the college was given B+ grade.

    Mrs. Gita Davar again took over the charge as acting principal of the College in May 2003. Under Ms. Davar's guidance the college continues to take rapid strides in academic, cultural and sports spheres. Three add-on courses were introduced in the college curriculum in 2004. These courses - Information and Communication, Copy Editing and Web Designing and Food Adulteration Control - are job oriented and can be done along with the regular degree (B.A., B.Com, B.SC., M.Com). Geography being one of the popular subjects was introduced from the Session 2006-07. The music department of the college has collected the articles and efforts are being made to set up a Folk Culture Centre in the college showcasing the rural Haryanavi culture very soon.To provide better facilities to Sports persons basket ball, volley ball and Badminton courts are being rebuilt with latest infrastructure. Archery is being introduced from the current set up in the college.
