G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology is an engineering college in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, India. GCET is named after Shri Gordhanbhai Hathibhai Patel, a philanthropist of Gujarat. Established in 1996 to provide undergraduate level technical education, GCET is also involved in industrial consultancy.
Vallabh Vidyanagar, named after the late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the 'Iron Man of India' has over the last fifty years been developed into a well-known seat of learning. The educational township, established in 1946, today provides pre-primary to postgraduate education. The presence of Sardar Patel University, here has boosted the pace of progress of educational activities. On this campus, more than thirty thousand students pursue academic programmes in many different disciplines. Several gardens, tree-lined avenues, a huge playground in the heart of the township, and a rural environment enliven academic activities on the campus.
Shri Gordhanbhai Hathibhai Patel, an eminent philanthropist of Gujarat, made a generous donation of Rupees Three Crores for the new college. In honour of this magnanimous gesture, the college has been named G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology, popularly known as GCET. GCET is managed by Charutar Vidya Mandal CVM, a registered charitable trust established in 1945. Since its inception the trust has been striving for the upliftment of rural society through education.
In keeping with today’s needs, computing facilities with more than 1000 desktop computers with latest configuration and an Internet connection through 52 Mbps shared radio link have been provided for use of students and staff of college. A centrally air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 550 and a lecture theater with capacity of 150 add to the ambiance of the college. This college was affiliated to Sardar Patel University from the year 1996 to 2008. later on from the year 2008, Institute is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University. New admission form year 2020 will be done under the Charutar Vidyamandal University.

M. E. in Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Engineering) :.
"Industrial Engineers || Growth Catalysts of Every Industry"
Engineers, by nature, are Efficiency oriented. Industrial Engineers add the element of Effectiveness for overall Operational Excellence. Industrial Engineers often termed as the “People and Systems†Engineers; they are the change agent of any business. They establish the most effective ways to utilize limited resources available and craft the methods to provide most effective products/services to the customers.
Industrial Engineering (IE) deals with the creation and management of systems that integrate all the factors of production, such as, men, materials, machines, money and energy in productive ways. It amalgamates specialized knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering to specify predict and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems for the overall benefit of the industries. Industrial Engineering education offers the best of both worlds: an education in both engineering and business.
In the era of globalization and liberalization, for global competitiveness, industries need improvements in both, productivity and profitability. Overall operational excellence is the key requirement of any business to have global competence and sustained growth. Industrial Engineering focuses on quality and productivity improvement and thus helping any business to gain global competitive advantage. Industrial Engineers design and implement solutions for sustainable growth in almost all industrial sectors.
Post Graduation in IE can be taken up by engineering degree holders in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automobile Engineering as well as Mechatronics Engineering.

Just as electronics and computers have revolutionized our lives in a number of ways, so have they revolutionized mechanical and production systems in industries. With the help of electronic instrumentation and microprocessor-based control, these systems are today achieving higher and higher standards of precision, accuracy and repeatability. Also, newer types of machines have been developed in which electronic processes and control play a key role. Application of CAD, CAM, Automation and Robotics have come to play a very significant role in industries of today, and the applications are growing at a very fast rate.
To train engineers who can design and work with such systems, the basic principles of mechanical engineering, electronics, control and computer soft wares must be brought together. The degree programme in Mechatronics aims to achieve precisely this. The word 'Mechatronics' was coined by the Japanese, more than 15 years ago, since they were the first to recognize the need. Today, Mechatronics programmes leading to undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees are running in major universities of the industrialized countries. In India, our college was the first to recognize this industrial need and we started a full-fledged four-year undergraduate programme in Mechatronics in 1998 with an annual intake of 40 students which has since been raised to 60.

Mechanical Engineering is often referred to as the basic engineering discipline because whatever field of engineering one wishes to major in, the basics of Mechanical Engineering come in handy in the effective design, development and ptimization of equipment and devices used in any industrial activity. The outcome of any Mechanical Engineering effort manifests itself as consumer durables and capital equipment for manufacture and energy conversion. Mechanical Engineering also plays a significant role in maintenance activities of all types.all types.he design, selection, installation, maintenance and upkeep of production facilities, in addition to the direct supervisory need of the shop floor. In addition, auxiliary units provide opportunities for self-employment to trained and enterprising mechanical engineers. The demand for trained manpower is likely to increase manifold with increasing values, growing competition and greater sophistication in design, production and testing facilities. The Mechanical Engineering program at GCET was started in 1997 with an annual intake of 60 students to meet this ever-increasing demand for mechanical engineers in the country.
