An Institute to train Secondary teacher was founded in June, 1970 in an ancient town Darbhavati, situated thirty two kilometers away in the east from a civilized city, Vadodara. This ancient town has a glorious past such as an architecture of a matchless sculptor Hiradhur , Garbies (poerms) of a devoted poet Dayaram , good administration from Maharaja vishaldev of the famous vessel industry.

Initially this college used the building of Arts and Science College and then if had given fund for its own building by the owner of old electricity company, Sheth Girdharlal Motilal contractor in the name of his father Sheth Motilal Nathalal Contractor College of Education, Dabhoi. And became famous from 1974.

This institute is capable to train 108 trainees in every year and is granted by National Council for teachers education,(NCTE) Bhopal. Admission process of trainees is governed by Central admission Committee Gujarat University,Ahmedabad.
