N. D. R. K. College of Nursing believes that Nursing is a service which relates to the holistic approach in the case of sick and the families learning as a life long process is promoted through intellectual creativity, self awareness, self discretion and responsibility. Students are responsible for responding to learning experiences which stimulate the intellectual and personal development.

Various health surveys brought to light the fact that the strength of nursing staff in all the fields of health needs to be increased appreciably. The high power committee on ‘Nursing and Nursing Profession’ set up by the Central Government gave its recommendations at the end of March 1990. One of the recommendations was that nursing education needs to be fitted into the national stream of education to bring about uniformity, recognition and standards.

The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt.
