Co-operative Arts and Science College had its humble beginning in the year 1980. A feweducated unemployed and enterprising young men of Payyanur, set up a Co-operative Educational Society, under the Kerala Co-operative Societies Act,1956 to run a parallel college at Payyanur. The society gave serious thought to the establishment of a regular affiliated aided college at Madayi.

S.N.D.P. Yogam Arts and Science College is one of the colleges under the corporate management of S.N.D.P yogam, Kollam, which stands for the upliftments of the poor and the down-trodden in the society. The college is sanctioned by Govt.of Kerala and affiliated to kannur University has started functioning in 2003, undertaking the timely and ingenious response to the educational needs of the society.

Until 2006,the college offered only B.A. and B.Com courses. The college was situated near by the bus stand the center of Udupi Town. Nearly 600 students enrolled every year. The classes had to be conducted in shifts to meet the needs of these students. There was ample evidence that this government institution can run as efficiently as a well run private college. The students of our college have done very well in annual university exams all these years.
