MUC Women's College is a Government Sponsored college affiliated to the University of Burdwan. It is the first college to be accredited under the University of Burdwan, having received a B++ rating from NAAC. M.U.C. Women's College founded on 28 July 1955 even prior to the establishment of the University of Burdwan to which the college is at present affiliated.
Raiganj College (University College) is one of the biggest colleges in the Northern part of West Bengal. Established in 1948, the college has been taken over by North Bengal University in 1968, and since then it has become a University College and is been directly managed by the University of North Bengal.
In 1927, the College Section offering basically the Intermediate Courses was affiliated to the Calcutta University. By 1949 the college was fully accredited to give courses in B.A. and B.Sc. Later, in 1962 with the establishment of the University of North Bengal the college was affiliated to the university. In 1963 the college moved out of the school premises into the present site the college is now in the 82nd year of its service.
