Bapatla Engineering College (Autonomous) was established in the year 1981 with a total intake of 180 students in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering & Electronics and Communications Engineering branches. The college was initially affiliated to ANDHRA UNIVERSITY and later to Nagarjuna University from 1984 onwards. An additional section with an intake of 60 in Mechanical Engineering branch was sanctioned in 1987.

GOKUL Institute of Technology and Sciences (GITAS) has been approved by the AICTE, New Delhi for 720 seats in B.Tech with 5 branches and 216 seats in M-Tech course with 10 specializations, 60 seats in MCA, and 60 seats in MBA courses. Further the 2nd shift Polytechnic college was also sanctioned for 480 intake. GITAS is Approved by AICTE New-Delhi, recognized by Govt. of A.P. and affiliated to JNTU, Kakinada. It is also accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) by AICTE New-Delhi.
