Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology - Port Blair was established in the year 1984 with the conventional branches of Engineering Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. Subsequently another Polytechnic i.e. Second Govt. Polytechnic was started in the year 1989 in the same campus with Diploma in Electronics & Communication, Fisheries Engineering and Fishing Boat Skipper and Trade Diploma Courses in Hotel Reception and Book Keeping, House Keeping and Cookery.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Govt. Polytechnic was established in the year 1984 and Second Govt. Polytechnic was established in the year 1989 in the same campus has been renamed as Dr. B. R.
