The origin of B. H. College dates back to January 1964 when Jadab Chandra Das, an eminent citizen, mooted the idea for establishing a College at Howly. Accordingly, a public meeting was held at Howly Chandi Barua Bhawan with Abdul Kader Choudhury, (Mouzadar) as President, and all those who were present very much appreciated the idea and unanimously decided to establish the College at the earliest.

Barama College, Baksa was established in 1971. A co-educational institution, it started initially with one year pre-university program in Arts. Two years later I.e. in 1973 the College was shifted to its present permanent site and Bachelor of Art program was introduce to synchronize the development of the stream. Tihu College came into existence on July 4, 1963 in a small rural town of Tihu, which was then an agro-based centre of local commerce for the greater Tihu- Sarthebari- Bajali -Dharmapur- Simlaguri area. Under the enthusiastic guidance of three noble and provident visionaries ( DR.
