In the year 1984, a visionary foresaw the great oak within the tiny acorn which he planted and nurtured with care and dedication. His Grace Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius, Founder-Manager of St. Thomas College, Bhilai (affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur) is no more with us but he lives on through the institution which has progressed by leaps and bounds and has carved for itself a niche in the education map of India.

The compulsion imposed on the parents to send their daughters outside Bhilai for better higher education in the absence of good women’s institution initiated the intellectuals, educationists, industrialists and politicians of Bhilai in laying the foundation of this well known institution namely Bhilai Mahila Mahavidyalaya in 1979.

Thirty-one years ago, few stalwarts in the public domain, transformed their spirited vision and dream to reality in the shape of Bhilai Institute of Technology in the loving memory of Seth Balkrishan, a renowned philanthropist of the region. Fired with the zeal of promoting the cause of technical education, the college was set up at Durg under the benign auspices of the Bhilai Institute of technology Trust in 1986.
