About
NIT Silchar offers two-year full-time M.Tech programme in different disciplines of Engineering and Technology. NIT Silchar MTech admission is done basis GATE score followed by CCMT counselling.

Course Duration

Eligibility Criteria
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area, with at least 60% marks or 6.5 CPI/CGPA on a 10 point scale. A relaxation of 5% marks or 0.5 in CPI/CGPA on a 10 point scale, as the case may be, may be extended to the candidates
belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories. However, the concerned Departments may specify additional requirements over and above these minimum requirements.
(a) Sponsored (Full-time)
A candidate, in this category, is sponsored by a govt/semi-govt/public sector organization for admission on a full-time basis. He/she must be a regular employee of the concerned organization and have at least one year of working experience in the respective field/area at the time of application. Sponsorship letter (Form I) needs to be attached along with the application for consideration.
(b) Sponsored (Part-time)
This category refers to the candidates who are professionally employed and can attend classes at the Institute while employed. These students need to attend regular classes as per the class
schedule. The applicant must be a regular employee of a govt/semi-govt/public sector organizations with at least one year of experience at the time of application, and be engaged in professional works related to the discipline in which admission is sought. A no objection
certificate (Form II) needs to be enclosed along with the application.
(c) Project Staff
This category refers to the candidates who are working on sponsored projects in the Institute and desires to join the Program as a part-time student. The left-over duration of the project at the time of admission needs to be at least one year. A no objection certificate (Form III-A) is to be attached with the application.
(d) Institute Employees
A regular employee of the Institute may be sponsored as a part-time student by the Director, on recommendation of Head of the Department/section in which the employee is working. The
employee must have completed at least two years of continuous service in the Institute at the time of admission. A no objection certificate (Form III-B) is to be attached with the application.
Selection Criteria
- The spot admission to M. Tech. Programme will be based on performance during selection process by the respective Departments. Mere call for interview does not guarantee admission. The Institute reserves the right to reject any or all applications or it may amend any of the clauses above as per orders of the competent authority/ Government of India.

Course Structure
Teaching for the courses is reckoned in credits. Due credit is given to lecture, tutorial (theory) and practical components for a given subject. Normally for M.Tech., first two semesters have theory and practical (laboratory) subjects while for MSc/MBA, theory courses are taught in all the semesters. The 3rd and 4th semester mostly constitute the project work for M.Tech. while for M.Sc/MBA, the project work spans over the fourth semester. MBA students undergo a compulsory summer internship after second semester.
Project work and Seminar are essential part of the curricula. Class tests, assignments, tutorials, vivavoce, laboratory assignments, etc., are the constituent components of continuous assessment process and a student must fulfil all these requirements as prescribed by the teacher/coordinator of the subject.
Registration:
Students in Postgraduate programmes register for the course at the beginning of each semester. These programmes do not have summer/re-examinations. Students securing ‘F’ grade in any course appear the exam in the following session. Attendance in all classes is compulsory and assessment and evaluation pattern is similar to undergraduate course.
Programme Features
Sponsored candidates may be permitted to carry out the Project Work at their parent organization. There may be a guide from the sponsoring organization for each sponsored student apart from the internal guide from NIT Silchar. Sponsored candidates are encouraged to publish papers in web of science / Scopus indexed journals. A joint patent in the name of institute and industry can also be filed. For a full-time, student, the minimum & maximum durations for completion of the programme are four & six semesters, respectively. For a parttime student, these durations are six & eight semesters respectively.
Admission Procedure
Advertisement for Admission to M.Tech. programme under Sponsored Category Admissions to the Regular (Full-time) M.Tech. Programs are made on the basis of seats allocated by the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Admission (CCMT).
