The National Institute of Siddha (NIS) Chennai is pleased to announce admissions to the Full-Time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program for the academic year 2023. Here are the important details you need to know:

PhD Program

  • This Institute has been recognized by the T.N Dr. M.G.R Medical University as a center to conduct Full Time & Part Time PhD programs in Eight Departments. The Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India has sanctioned 16 seats to this Institute in the following departments, to conduct Full-Time Ph. D programme:
  1. Maruthuvam
  2. Gunapadam
  3. Kuzhandai Maruthuvam
  4. Noi Naadal
  5. Nanju Maruthuvam
  6. Pura Maruthuvam
  7. Varmam Maruthuvam
  8. SiddharYogam Maruthuvam

  • Downloading application form from the website: 18.10.2023
  • The last date for downloading the application form: 17.11.2023
  • Last date for receipt of the filled-in application: 17.11.2023
  • Date of written examination: 15.12.2023

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the PhD program should meet the following criteria:

  • You should have obtained a Postgraduate Degree in Siddha in the concerned subject under the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970.

Age Limit

There is no age limit for this program.

Application Process

  • Download the application form from the NIS Website: www.nischennai.org.
  • Fill in the application form and enclose a Demand Draft of Rs. 2,000/- (Rupees two thousand only) for OBC and UR candidates, and Rs. 1,500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred only) for SC/ST candidates as the application fee.
  • Submit the application form by Registered post/Speed Post/in Person. The Demand Draft should be drawn in favor of “The Director, National Institute of Siddha” and payable at Chennai.
  • Please note that the cost of the application form, once remitted, will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • Inadequately filled or incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.

Selection Process

  • Selection of candidates will be based on merit determined by a written examination. The minimum qualifying marks are 55% for General and OBC candidates and 50% for SC/ST candidates.
  • The selection process also includes an interview conducted by the Selection Committee, which consists of the Director, Dean, Guide, and a Senior faculty member in the concerned specialty.

Examination Pattern

The question paper for the written examination will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from the following subjects:

  • Concerned PG subjects: 40 marks
  • Research Methodology and Biostatistics: 40 marks
  • Fundamentals, including Siddha Maruthuva Addippadai Thathuvangalum varalarum, Uyir vedhiyal, udal koorugal, udal thathuvam, nunn uyiriyal: 20 Marks
  • Each correct answer carries one mark.
  • Negative marking is applicable, with a deduction of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer or if more than one answer has been selected. Unattended questions receive zero marks.
