NID Admission 2026: Exam Dates, Application Form (Released), Syllabus

The NID 2026 examination will be conducted on 21 December 2025 for the prelims exam. Its application form has been released. National Institute of Design (NID) is a prestigious design institute in India, established in 1961. NID Admission 2026 is administered by the National Institute of Design. The NID Entrance Exam is an institute-level fashion and design entrance examination conducted by the National Institute of Design. The primary objective of this exam is to facilitate admission to NID campuses located in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Assam for B.Des and M.Des programs. NID Entrance Exam

NID Entrance Exam is a highly competitive exam that evaluates a candidate’s aptitude for design, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Any student who wishes to appear in the National Institute of Design Design Aptitude Test needs to first fill up the application form. Important points are as follows.

• NID releases the NID DAT application form at nid.edu.
• Students should fill and submit the NID DAT online application form before the last date.

Exam Pattern

The question paper of National Institute of Design Design Aptitude Test will be as per the exam pattern.

• The NID exam pattern conveys the mode, important topics, question distribution, marking scheme.  
• Latest exam scheme is as per nid.edu.

DAT Prelims for B.Des

• Mode of Exam – The exam is a paper-and-pencil/pen test.
• Language of Question Paper – The question paper is in language English.

DAT Prelims for M.Des

• Components – Common Design Aptitude Test and a Discipline Specific Test
• Question type – The questions are objective and subjective type questions.
• Total Marks – Maximum marks in the NID DAT is 100 marks.
• Language of Question Paper – The question paper is in language English.

DAT Mains for B.Des

• The DAT Mains will consist of tests in multiple formats such as in studio set-up.
• The question paper will be in English language ONLY.

DAT Mains for M.Des

The DAT Mains for M.Des. programmes consists of two parts:

1. Studio Test: This may consist of tests in different formats. The DAT Mains will be conducted in English ONLY.
2. Interviews: The interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test, and at the same centre as the Studio Test.

Exam Pattern

The NID Entrance Exam consists of two parts: Prelims and Mains. The Prelims exam is a written test that evaluates a candidate’s aptitude for design, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It consists of objective and subjective type questions and is conducted in both online and offline modes. The Mains exam is a studio test that evaluates a candidate’s hands-on skills, design ability, and visual sensitivity. It consists of various exercises such as sketching, model making, and group discussions.
