Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to the PhD program at Lovely Professional University, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Pass with 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grades prescribed by UGC in the Master’s Degree (2-year or 4-semester Master’s Degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree) or equivalent in the relevant subject to qualifying LPUNEST and Interview.
- Candidates who have completed a 1-year or 2-semester Master’s Degree after a 4-year or 8-semester Bachelor’s Degree are also eligible, provided they have a minimum of 75% marks in the Bachelor’s Degree aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Additional Notes:
- Applicants with relevant Postgraduate degrees in Engineering are only allowed to apply for the Ph.D. in engineering disciplines.
- For example, applicants with an M.Tech./ME in CSE would apply for Ph.D. (Computer Science and Engineering), and applicants with MCA or M.Sc. (CS/IT) degrees should apply for Ph.D. (Computer Applications).
- Applicants with a master’s degree obtained through distance education or online mode are not eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Engineering Programmes.
- An applicant who has completed the Company Secretary (CS) course from ‘The Institute of Company Secretaries of India’ (ICSI) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks is eligible to apply for admission to Ph.D. (Commerce) and Ph.D. (Management).
Application Process
- Eligible candidates are required to apply online only through the official website https://nest.lpu.in/phd/.
- Applicants can complete their LPUNEST application without purchasing an LPUNEST Kit. The application process should be carried out through the University Website https://nest.lpu.in/.
- For online application, applicants should have access to Online Banking facilities through Net banking/Debit card/Credit card.
- Applicants also have the option to obtain the LPUNEST Kit from the University Campus or any other prescribed location by making a cash payment.
Application Fee:
- Soft copy of LPUNEST Kit: Rs. 1000 (for male students) and Rs. 500 (for female students).
- Printed LPUNEST Kit: Rs. 1500 (for male students) and Rs. 1000 (for female students). Payment Method: Online payment can be made using Net banking/Debit card/UPICredit card.
Selection Process:
- Applicants will be shortlisted for an interview based on their score in the LPUNEST (Ph.D.) entrance examination.
- The final selection for admission to the Ph.D. program will be determined by the candidate’s performance in the Entrance Test (70% weightage) and Interview (30% weightage), provided they meet the minimum marks requirement in the Interview.
- Applicants who have qualified in UGC (NET/JRF), CSIR (NET/JRF), ICAR (JRF/SRF), SLET (Punjab only), GATE or GPAT score card, ICAR (NET), SPM, Teacher Fellowship holder, or have passed the M.Phil. Program (in Regular mode only) are exempted from LPUNEST (Ph.D.). However, they will still need to fill out the LPUNEST (Ph.D.) form and participate in the Interview.
