Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates applying for admission to the Ph.D. program must hold a Master’s degree or a professional degree recognized as equivalent to a Master’s degree by the University Grant Commission (UGC) with at least 55% aggregate marks or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale where applicable). Alternatively, candidates with an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an approved Assessment and Accreditation Agency may also apply.
- A relaxation of 5% in marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation in grade, may be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories as per UGC guidelines, or to those who obtained their Master’s degree before September 19th, 1991. However, this relaxation is applicable only to the qualifying marks and does not include grace marks.
- The Ph.D. program is also open to internal faculty members of LJ University and other institutions established by Lok Jagruti Kendra Trust who wish to pursue a doctoral degree. These candidates must fulfill all prescribed conditions and will be required to pay fees at a subsidized rate, with the balance being subsidized by the LJK Trust/their respective departments.
Application Procedure
While online application submission for the Doctoral Programs remains open throughout the year, entrance tests for admission are conducted in July and January annually. Selection Procedure
The selection procedure for the Ph.D. program at LJ University entails the following steps:
- Entrance Test: All applicants must clear an Entrance Test conducted by the University for admission to the Ph.D. program. However, candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including SLET/GATE/GPAT), or hold teacher fellowships, will be exempted from this test.
- Determination of Seats: Each year, the University will determine the number of available seats for admission to Ph.D. programs across various Schools and Departments. This decision will be made no later than December, considering factors such as the availability of Research Supervisors and academic infrastructure.
- Year-round Admissions: Admissions to the Doctoral Programs at LJ University will remain open throughout the year. Students can apply for the program during any term.
- Entrance Test Schedule: The entrance test for each term will be conducted on the first Sunday of the months of January and July.
- Exemption for M.Phil. Degree Holders: Candidates who have cleared an M.Phil. Degree will be exempted from appearing in the entrance test and will be deemed qualified for admission.
