CSIR-IMTECH Chandigarh PhD Admission 2024 – The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), Chandigarh, invites applications from exceptionally motivated candidates to pursue doctoral research in interdisciplinary areas of Modern Biology. This program is jointly run by CSIR-IMTECH and the Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR), New Delhi, for the academic session commencing from August 2024.

The CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTech), established in 1984, is one among the chain of 38 national laboratories, 6 units, and 39 outreach centers of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. CSIR-IMTECH is a multidisciplinary institute with state-of-the-art research facilities and faculty specializing in various frontier areas of modern microbiology. These include Molecular Microbiology, Microbial Genetics & Epigenetics, Microbial Genomics, Host-Microbe Interaction, Pathogen Biology, Cellular Trafficking, Microbial Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Drug Designing and Development, Industrial & Environmental Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, Microbial Diversity & Ecology, Bioinformatics & Big Data Analytics, Biochemical Engineering, and Medicinal Chemistry.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates eligible to apply for CSIR-IMTECH Chandigarh PhD Admission 2024 must meet the following criteria:
- Master’s Degree (M.Sc./M.Tech/M.Pharm) with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in any branch of Science or Technology.
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.Tech/B.E.) in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Biological Sciences, or other branches with a special interest in Biology, with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Medicine (MBBS) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
- SC/ST/Differently-abled candidates must have a minimum aggregate of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
- Candidates holding valid fellowships from CSIR-UGC NET, DBT-JRF (Category A only), DST-INSPIRE, ICMR-JRF, or equivalent are eligible to apply.
- B.Tech/B.E./B.Pharm candidates with a valid GATE score or qualified GPAT must fulfill the eligibility conditions of CSIR’s JRF-GATE fellowship.
- Candidates holding lecturer-ship/Assistant Professorship only in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination, candidates selected for working only in ICMR Projects, or candidates with M.Sc/M.Tech/M.Pharm with GATE/GPAT are NOT eligible to apply.
Application Process:

Selection Process:
- Eligible candidates will be invited for an interview either in person at CSIR-IMTech, Chandigarh, or through online mode.
- The interview will evaluate the candidate’s knowledge, critical analysis, logical reasoning, and aptitude for scientific research.
- The results of the selected candidates will be announced on the AcSIR website. The fee for the PhD program follows the AcSIR fee structure.
- For in-person interviews at CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh, candidates must be prepared to stay for three days, the approximate duration required to finalize admission.
- No TA/DA or other expenses will be reimbursed for attending the interview.
