Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology was started in the year 2003 with an objective of generating trained manpower in Biotechnology with disciplinary skills from Chemical engineering, Computer Science and Management Skills. Biotechnology is the application of Biology for industrial purposes such as development of vaccines, biomaterials, reducing toxic waste by using microbial or enzyme based processes, development of new drugs for treating emerging and reemerging diseases, development of newer diagnostic methods for diagnosis of human diseases, development of crops with additional productivity or added advantages etc.

Teaching Methodology :

A tutorial based teaching approach is used. Students are given every opportunity to give seminars and are taken for visits to industries or other Institutes for specialized applications. Discussions using journal publications are encouraged. Webinars are used to show the latest research developments. The University stresses on an All-round Development of the student and the Students are given many opportunities to enhance their soft skills by taking Business English Courses and other short term Workshops and Conferences organized in the University.

Specializations :

Students can choose to specialize in Food Technology, Pharmaceutical Technology, Genomics and Proteomics, Tissue Engineering, Molecular Modeling and Drug Design. In the final Semester students must be attached to an Industry or a Research Lab as per their interest. Routine mentoring during this period ensures that students are engaged in a productive training. Support from the University is provided for students appearing for competitive examinations such as GATE, CAT, TOEFL and CSIR. Training in preparing their curriculum vitae, appearing in interviews, group discussion skills are offered throughout.
