Shyam Lal College was founded in 1964 by Padamshri Shyam Lal Gupta, the Chairman, Shyam Lal Charitable Trust. Dr. Zakir Hussain, the then Vice-President of India and Chancellor of Delhi University laid the foundation stone on 24th May 1964. Since then, the college has continually committed itself to equal opportunity in education for all. In 1969, the college spread itself into an Evening College and is now a full-fledged college of Delhi University. The college offers education at undergraduate level in Commerce and Humanities. Located on G.T.Road, it houses over a thousand students in its campus. It is also made accessible by Metro. All you have to do is to get down at Welcome station on Rithala-Shahdara Red Line route from where one can easily walk down to the college., Library, The students enrolled in the college, the Faculty members and Non-teaching staff of the college are members of the college library. At present, the library is a host of 33,470 books, 38 journals and magazines and 12 newspapers. The library also has a reprographic unit.
